Often my paintings and pastel work originate as a spontaneous emotional release, however I have also been inspired by my own journals and have allowed myself to use the emotional images as a foundation from which to evolve creatively.

In the beginning of my career, I was inspired to release my emotions creatively as a way of exploring my inner conversations with myself. Later, when I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, this skill developed and provided me with a forum for facing my fears, hopes, and own mortality. As I create today, my work continues to reflect my emotional side, however my creative expression depicts a wider range of feeling.

My career as an artist began with designing and creating jewelry made out of scrap metals, over ten years ago. Painting and drawing shortly followed and was solely figurative. Raw emotion was the starting point, which I explored through the manipulation of color often requiring use of my hands; I literally put myself into my work. My later work intertwines my earlier style, while communicating emotion through simplified lines and varying images. As viewers experience my work today, crosses, flowers, and figures primarily guide them through my inner life. Each painting and drawing reflects a moment of self-reflection, an instance of truth within myself.

Being self-taught, I believe I allow myself to be playful with my use of color. Frequently, I listen to my intuition as I manipulate color, sometimes using opposites as a way of challenging the viewer to look at color in a new way. As one views my work, my hope is one will allow oneself to delve into their own inner world remembering a moment or feeling once lost, or desired. We are never alone.
